V Festival Scrapped
After running successfully in Essex for 22 years, Virgin boss Richard Branson announced that his company’s partnership with Live Nation was no more and that there would be no more V Festivals. Branson made the following statement through Virgin’s website:
“V Festival has always been a special weekend for everyone at Virgin. We’ve been proud to sponsor V Festival for the past two decades and there have been some incredible performances on the stage. Now, after 22 very enjoyable and successful years, 2017 was Virgin’s last V Festival.” This years V Festival featured a standard-star-filled line up which included Jay-Z, Pink and Ellie Goulding.
However, UK Business Insider reported that the event is to be rebranded and will run again under a new name, at the same time of year, at its two sites in Essex and Staffordshire.
Branson meanwhile was as ever looking to the future, saying “At Virgin, we know first hand how important it is to keep innovating and changing things up, which is why it is now time for us to look at new ways we can disrupt the industry to ensure music is a force for good.”
