ABOUT MY STATUS:
You can check on my Facebook page (look for "Sonicdreamer") what projects I am busy with right now. I'm constantly working with someone.
ABOUT THIS SITE:
Since I've joined Vocalizr, I've noticed many people joining daily. Yet there are not so many GIGs and Contests and many just run out without going to the next stage , so I have some doubts on how successful this site actually is. I get the feeling pros rarely use it. So, many of us so called "PROducers" are looking for singers to collab with - the problem for many are everybody wants $ first. Of course this is how the site is supposed to work, but a lot of people are willing to work for the cheap, if not for free - just to get started and this site does not handle it (understandably Vocalizr needs to pay the bills somehow). So far all my work listed on this site, has been free or ridiculously cheap in order to help out a bit. I think most of us here are dreamers. Or, maybe it's just me :)
I've been a part time musician for more than 20 years. For many moons I've played keyboard and sax in a cover band in South Africa, called After Hours. We played at restaurant pubs and small functions, and performed cover hits mainly from the 80s, including pop, rock, reggae and blues. It was my job to deal with the technical side of the band - that included building the tracks (more than 40) used in our repertoire. Now, don't fear. I still love the 80s, but it is really retro - even to me. So unless you demand old school , I prefer modern stuff.
I have a recording engineer diploma from the Audio Institute of America, and I was a 2010 honour student and have done a number of productions for local artists in my studio. This includes building soundtracks, recording vocals and instruments and doing the mixing and mastering.
ABOUT MY RIG:
In my studio I use Pro Tools and Propellerheads Reason to create the sound of a full band that will let your voice shine through. I also play some real instruments including guitar, sax, blues harmonica and of course keyboard and can add that to the production. To keep it original, I try not to use off the shelf sampled loops. In the studio I record vocals, instruments and small bands (up to 4 members) live.
If you are a singer song writer, you can give me a tune, lyrics or description of what you want - or share a rough demo for me to work from. Or, if you just want to sing to existing unreleased material that I've already created, you can do that - although that might not be to your taste. Anyway, look at my SoundCloud profile "eben-van-der-merwe". There is a playlist "Productions for vocalists over the Internet", some of them have been working with me through Vocalizr.
After collaboration once you're happy with your new music track, I'll give you a transposed copy to fit your vocal range, You then need to practice and get to know the song and finally lay down your vocals as a separate recording. For me to integrate and process your vocals to your new track:
- you need to be able to record your voice using a good microphone of course (unless you can get to my studio for a session). You might need some help with this (a studio is the best option)
- the WAV files must be 48Khz sample rate at 24 bits
- I will need 2 dry takes of you voice: the same lyrics and melody sang by you 2 times, as different cuts will be used from those 2 takes, to build a complete track. You must not sing harmony on the same track. When I clean up your vocals, pitch adjustment, EQ and so on must be done one a single voice at a time.
I will guide you with this. Finally I will share the completed mixdown with you, and if requested make final adjustments according to what you want. Once you are happy, the high quality mixdown of the production will be stored in this site's Studio's "Asset" section for you.
ABOUT YOUR MONEY:
That you don't have? Now you're sounding just like me. Well, you don't have to click "Hire" - simply click "Connect" to start sharing ideas and see what happens. Maybe sing a short phrase (even on your mobile) so that I can do a free sample / demo for you, with 10 seconds or so to show what can be done. That way you can test drive the idea, and have zero risk. It is still a lot of work for me, but I do love it.
This site will protect both parties from losing work or money, please read about it under "Help".
Finally, I can only work on a handful of projects at a time as like most people, I have a day job. I will not take you on if I don't have the capacity.
