Toyah Hoetzel is the House Music aficionado, swiftly gaining traction on the Melbourne dance music scene. A DIY ethic with a commercial edge; the artist’s ability to resonate with the underground dance scene while simultaneously earning the #4 spot on the triple j Unearthed dance music chart and #33 in the top 40 makes Hoetzel a rare catch and one for your radar.
The artist’s sound is throbbingly bass-y with a distinct emphasis on vocals, and in recent months, has seen her collaborate with Rya Park, Nussy, Lena Louise Hampton, and dance troupe the Uncut Diamonds.
Hoetzel has always been a slave to the music, whether it was as a Mohawk-ed kid jumping to NOFX, or as an acoustic guitar strumming singer-songwriter doing the venue rounds on Melbourne’s grungy north-side.
But it was at BIG DAY OUT festival, aged 18 that Hoetzel had her first impactful encounter with the wonderful world of electronic music. Taking in a legendary line up of Aphex Twin, The Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx in one sitting, Hoeztel, the blue-haired, mohawked teen punk from Brunswick was converted forever.

One of Hoetzel’s finest characteristics as an artist is her insatiable enthusiasm and immersion into all areas of her craft. She can be weaving magic on Ableton while discussing the parallels between classical symphonies and dance music, all while brainstorming the remix to your new single.
